Shouldn't Have Bothered

Worms has been a pretty prominent feature in our gaming life for the past year or so, once we all started hanging out it was quickly a game that caught our eye whilst browsing xbox live, eventually although being students I dove ahead and made yet another frivolous gaming purchase for the sake of shits and giggles for want of a better phrase. There are some issues with the game, the online is now all but bare, the campaign is of course limited and the DLC available is not cheap by any extent regardless of the age of the game, this of course doesn’t mean that I didn’t purchase this as well.
Regardless of these minor faults, the game as a multiplayer experience is outstanding. As a game it can be played whilst doing other tasks, even whilst some work however when the evening is winding down after playing some Blur and MVC3 it’s both a struggle of forces as well as an explosion of mayhem and mishaps. There has been numerous times where the mis-press of a button has catastrophic ramifications sending a single worm soaring into a mine, exploding 5 weapon crates and ripping the landscape in two and each time these results remain incredibly funny but this twinned with long range shots of banana bombs that proceeds to wipe out 5 players makes the game very rewarding and fun.
We felt that when it came to dishing out rewards at the end of games that listed 15 or 20 minutes that the computer is a little harsh. Frequently the teams who go on to win by digging deep into the ground to escape fire and then tunnelling up to freedom to escape flooding were given rewards that made you feel like you shouldn’t have bothered. At one point, a friend of ours got ‘Most Useless’ as his badge of honour from a long round prompting him to scream angrily. It’s just sobering to think of the ramifications that these might have for the worm’s self-esteem really.
